Mega Watt Scale Solar Power Plant
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Solar Array
Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Modules:
The solar array consists of SPV modules generating the desired design power. The array is configured as series and parallel, connected sub arrays. The system voltage is made available to suit the inverter.
The inter-connections between panels are connected in a junction box that also contains the blocking diodes, to prevent reverse flow of power to panel in the absence of sunlight. +ve and -ve cables are drawn from the junction box to the inverter. The array is mounted on a specially designed common support structure.
Support Structure:
The support frame is a rugged, corrosion resistant, MS structure that needs to be anchored on to the floor or rooftop, facing the south. The entire frame can be tilted according to the latitude of the site. If correctly anchored, the support frame with the array installed can sustain wind speeds of up to 200 kmph. For electrical safety, the entire frame and the array are securely earthed.
Inverter:
The inverter converts the DC supply from the solar panel to mains grade 3 phase 415 V, 50 Hz AC supply. The capacity of the inverter is decided on the load that is to be connected to the solar system. The output of the inverter is pure sine wave with power factor correction.
Cabling and connections:
The module outputs are terminated in terminal box and the outputs are taken out through fire retardant cables with suitable connectors that allow series parallel combination of the modules to suit the power plant requirement. The outputs are terminated in the array junction boxes and then onto the main junction boxes. The output of the main junction boxes is given to the inverters.
The inverter AC out put is connected directly to the grid or through a suitable step up transformer as the case may be.
POWER TRANSFORMER:
The three phase output of the Inverter is fed to the Power Transformer through LT Panel and the Power Transformer steps up the voltage to 11 KV or 33 KV as the case may be.
